University receives national award for excellent teaching

Dear students

Last week the University received some fantastic news that we’re excited to share with you. In the new Teaching Excellence Framework, a national assessment of university teaching quality, we were given a Silver award by an independent panel of assessors, with teaching quality at a Gold standard.

A Silver award represents a judgement that a higher education provider significantly and consistently exceeds the quality threshold for UK higher education. The panel commended the University for its promotion of active and personalised learning, the academic support we provide to students and our investment in the learning environment and learning resources. The University’s recognition and reward scheme for good teaching was also commended, in which we have one of the highest proportions of teaching staff with professional recognition of any university in the country.

The TEF is based on three years of data on student satisfaction, retention and employability, and on additional information about our learning environment and academic support for students.  It provides national recognition for the quality of the teaching and learning that our students benefit from while you study here.

As you know we take your student experience very seriously, and the University and Beds SU work in partnership together to ensure you have the best learning experience possible. This award is a recognition of not only the hard work of our staff and lecturers, but of the students who have taken the time to tell us how things can improve and take part in staff appointments, the University shadowing scheme and as student representatives to the University.

Thank you to each and every one of you and as the new Beds SU team takes up their roles on 1st July we look forward to another productive year of working together in partnership.
