Campus Liaison Officers

Campus Liaison Officers work on a part-time voluntary basis to ensure that each campus is represented across the Union. Campus Liaison Officers essentially serve as the head Rep for a campus. They coordinate with Exec officers, academic reps and Union staff to raise the student voice at their study centres. They will be the voice of students on your campus, ensuring that Beds SU and the other elected Officers are considering and working to improve the student experience on these sites.

Meet your 2020 Campus Liaison Officers:

Please contact me if you have any issues or questions at studentvoice@beds.ac.uk and you can always provide your feedback using this form feedback form

Tell us a little about yourself, where did you grow up and what it was like? I have been here in the UK for nearly three years. I got my first degree from the University of Northampton. I have grown up in a well upper-class family from the beautiful small city of Pakistan Called Mirpur azad Kashmir. The question what it was like can be answered simply with the word AMAZINGLY SUPERB (being around your parents can not be compared with anything).

What course/year are you in? I am studying MBA with placement (March 2020 starter).

What motivates you to take the course are in? The passion for learning more and more about how this country UK has rules and regulations for each and every single field. I wanted to spend some more years in the UK to bring up my inner talent/confidence due to how this country provides an independent life for everyone, especially for women.

Why did you choose to study at beds? One of my friends back home was studying in Bedfordshire, and I got inspired by how he got opportunities to work within the university. Luton is a city where I can see most of the Asian community that gives me the feeling of my home country.

If you could have any superpower, what it would be and why? (A magical stick), for helping the less fortunate, especially students that are wandering around to find the right path and right opportunities.

What are three tips you have for someone who is about to begin a course at your campus?

1) Don’t be shy to ask 100 times and use information from tutors instead of seeking help from students around you.

2) English is just a language speak and make a lot of friends.

3) Engaged with your studies as much as you can that will make you learn the system that will clear your doubts to ask for help to the right persons.

What is one thing that you would enjoy about campus? The food options

What do you hope to accomplish in your time as a campus liaison officer?

1) More confidence

2) How to communicate well with newcomers.

3) How to guide them on the right path

4) Some admin skills

5) Hope to engage more with the staff that will help my learning

Tell us a little about yourself. Where did you grow up and what was it like? I was born in Zimbabwe in the fruitful district of Mazowe. I grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe, and it gave me some of the best memories that anyone can have.

What course/year are you in? At the moment I am going [onto] my third-year [of] Adult Nursing which I am very passionate about (why not do something you love and get paid for it).

Why did you choose to study at Beds? I chose UOB because it was near my house, it was placed in the top 40 nationally for the best nursing courses, and my mum is an Alumni student of the University.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be I and why? If I had any superpower, it would be the power to cure all diseases because I have experienced how much heartbreak it brings both to individuals and healthcare professionals.

What are three tips you have for someone who is about to begin a course at your campus?

For someone who’s starting their course at Aylesbury campus I would advise you to

1.  Have a packed lunch

2. Water bottle or travel mug

3. Try to get there at least 15 mins early because parking is a nightmare

What is one thing that you really enjoy about your campus? I enjoy how compact the campus is and how we are on the grounds of the hospital (trust me; it makes a big difference that we have that big hospital library at our disposal).

What is one thing that you would change about your campus? One thing I would change about my campus would be to have a food vending machine in the building as the nearest one is in the hospital, which is a bit of a trek away.

What do you hope to accomplish in your time as a Campus Liaison Officer? In my time as Campus Liaison Officer, I would love to empower more students to take up positions in Beds SU and represent their fellow students, as well as the campus because for far too long we have been at the back of everyone’s mind.  I want us to be recognised and represented so that nursing courses will also have the same privileges as other courses, with all students receiving information about what is happening in our University, and what other services they have at their disposal.
